Peace and Wants

As I was preparing to do the devotional at SHEM this morning, I came across this old scripture. An old friend if you will. This morning, I want to write a brief (lol) blog on it. Ok’s let’s begin.

6 Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition ([b]definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.

7 And God’s peace [shall be yours, that [c]tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall [d]garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].

Don’t worry, don’t stress about anything. About anything! Great Paul, how do I do that? To which I hear in my head him reply: in every circumstance, every situation, make a petition, with thanksgiving, continue to make your WANTS known to God. And God’s peace which is greater than you can even imagine or understand, will set up a guard for your heart, and cover you with peace.

Ok, so let me see if I have this straight in Woody terms. When I come home from work my son meets me at the door, says glad to see you dad, thankful you are home. Then he says, so there is this new game, and it is discounted right now, I know we may not be able to right now, but I just wanted to let you know that I would love to have it, if its possible. And then my daughter says, dad, look at these boots, I would rock them, they are only 30 dollars….. just saying….. not that I have to have them. And then, of course, I start trying to figure out how I can make that happen. And I see this smile on their faces knowing Dad is working on their wants. They have peace knowing dad will handle it. Paul are you saying that Father God is like that? that He wants me to have the desires of my heart? Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. And He wants you to have peace so much, that He tells you to think about only the good things, meditate on it, trust Him, He has good plans for you.

So, Paul I have one last question. why are you still talking to me, I have petitions to write! It’s funny, I am already starting to have peace about my desires and dreams and I haven’t even started making my petition yet. This trusting God thing is pretty cool…….
