I'll Be Your Huckleberry

The Crash

I’ll be your Huckleberry.

Now most of you know the movie this line is from. Tombstone, one of the greatest Western/History movies of all time. If you don’t believe it, skin that smoke wagon and see what happens. Sorry, I had too. It is an iconic line, but then again most lines in that movie are. I could quote you a few, but it would sound like “I was down by the creek walking on water”. Sorry again, I will stop.

Have you ever noticed for some reason or another, there are just certain lines in movies and in songs that stick in our heads? Those one liners that we can almost never forget. I am thankful for the world of Google. I don’t have to know a song or a movie name, just a few words, and Google will find it for me. Google is my friend. In the church world there are go to verses. Verses that we tend to go to all the time. Verses like, Jeremiah 29:11, I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you… Or, John 3:16, For God so loved the world…

Judge not least you be judged…

You are the head and not the tail…

I can do all things, through Christ…

You are more than a conqueror…

You’re a Daisy if you do…

Oops, did it again. So what is the purpose of this blog? I’ll be your Huckleberry? I have a simple point today. We watch movies because we like the subject matter, and we listen to songs that speak to us. We retain those lines that really hit home. For me, yesterday, my mind brought up some old Billy Joel songs. I haven’t listened to secular music in years, and yet there it was. My point is this, what would happen if everything that we go through, things we have to relate to on a daily basis, things we might say, (I’ll be your Huckleberry too), what would happen if we would find a verse, not the normal, everybody knows it verses, but verses that apply to your life? Verses that become as familiar as your favorite movie line? Or your favorite song?

Think about this, every time something comes against you, try and find a verse that applies. It is there, I promise. Then try to paraphrase it, just for you, then memorize it. Make it one of those lines like, “Toto, I don’t think we are in Kansas anymore”. Find that one thing, that applies to you, make it your own, and speak it - often. Remember, faith cometh by hearing………

Maybe I am crazy, ok, so we know I am, but I have verses that are just for me, they guide me, they help me, and I believe they were written just for me and no one else. And you can’t prove me wrong. LOL, Make it real; make it yours; “Make it your Oak”.
